Update from our missed class

Hi Class,

I am sorry our classes were canceled yesterday because of the water issue, but I hope you enjoyed a free day. :) Initially, I had planned on a review for our literary terms exam and a test next week, but I don't like the idea of testing you on something we haven't discussed in class. Therefore, I am moving your test to February 26th. That said, I have a test review for you to go over. I will discuss Allegory, Parables, Fables, and Symbols in class next week. The others we have covered in our Powerpoints in class this semester, so review your notes!

Here's what you will need to know for the Literary Exam:

1.   Define Allegory

2.   Define Irony

3.   Define Symbolism

4.   Define Theme

5.   Define Plot and Subplot

6.   Know the Story Arc, their terms and meanings, and know how to provide an example from one of the novels.

7.   Know foreshadowing and flashbacks, and their differences.

8.    Define Setting: time, place, location

9.    Know the different types of narrators, first, second, etc.

10. Know characters: static “flat,” round or “dynamic,” and foil.

11. Know archetypes and stock characters

12. Know Parables and Fables and their differences

I will also have three short essay questions about our readings from this year, asking you to apply your knowledge of the literary terms to the texts.

You will also need to turn in your essay on Malala assigned last week in class in class. It is due at the beginning of class next week.

I will schedule a make-up class on Friday, March 1st, at 11:00am.
