Sept. 25th Assignment
Class,
I am assigning a little bit of extra readings for this week, so please do not delay. The first article is a basic run-down on postcolonial theory. Now, remember, one of the goals for this year, is to be able to understand and use the most popular critical theories in literature. Our next novel is a prime example of postcolonialism, but what does that even mean? Check out the article and see if you can start putting this together. We will discuss this further in class.
Next, I am assigning "How to Shoot an Elephant" by George Orwell. Yep, the one who wrote 1984.
Finally, you have the six short essays to read in the OWMC text. There are no writing assignments due this week, other than your work on your presentation and your grammar notebook. Once I return your graded essays (hopefully on Tuesday), you will add in your other grammar challenges and will turn in your Composition log the following week. In the meantime, enjoy a break from writing, and sit back with a warm drink and your readings. I hope you enjoy them.
House Point Challenge: Write a thank you letter to Southern Hills Baptist Church for letting Wise Owl Academy use their facilities. Show it to me, and then place it in the church office. Please follow the proper thank you letter format, found here.
Review your notes on the grammar we've discussed. I think we will have a grammar quiz the end of October.
