Aristotle on Comedy and Tragedy
We will be looking closely at the definition of tragedy as we read Things Fall Apart, and I like to ground my definitions in theory. For this theory, we will let Aristotle define our terms. We will go over this in class, and I will have a handout for each literary group of the same discussion; however, for those of you that would like to come back to this, have your own copy, or share with your parents, here is how we will define tragedy and comedy. Keep this handy for the semester. Many of our texts explore tragedy, and Aristotle sets out for us a few ways of seeing them.
